I always only half jokingly pointed out that everyone below the level of A ssociate Dean in the library would make more money as a truck driver than as l ibrarians and archivists with faculty rank in an academic research library.
I make more than many of them now at the flood commission, but still not what I would make in a line haul gig with some experience. I like seeing my doggos every day, though.

I once worked at a long haul truck stop in high school. You’d be surprised how many truckers have dogs in their cabs with them.
